Thrive Week 2024: Fostering positive mental health at McMaster

From January 22-26th, there will be over 25 in-person and virtual events focused on promoting the mental well-being of students, faculty, staff and alumni.

There will be over 25 in-person and virtual events focused on promoting the mental well-being of students, faculty, staff and alumni as part of this year’s Thrive Week at McMaster.

Thrive Week 2024, taking place from January 22-26, encourages the McMaster community to come together to learn about, talk about and explore ways to support our mental health.

Thrive Week is organized by the McMaster Okanagan Office of Health & Well-being, Student Wellness Centre and Human Resources, in partnership with many groups and departments across campus.

Over 25 engaging in-person and virtual events will be hosted throughout the week, focused on promoting the mental well-being of students, faculty, staff and alumni.

Event Highlights


Triple C Farm Visit: Monday January 22nd, 10am-12pm, Burke Science Building Field

Thrive Week 2024 begins with a visit from Triple C Farm at BSB Field! Come visit adorable animals – goats, sheep, alpacas, donkeys, pigs, horses – for a wellness boost.

Our Campus, Our Community: EDIA Winter Networking and Social: Tuesday January 23rd 3:30PM – 5PM, University Hall Room 103

Many staff and faculty at McMaster are doing formal and informal equity work that benefits the university in profound ways. This event is an opportunity for those engaged in equity at McMaster to connect with others doing similar work, build relationships, develop community and skill share around ways to “thrive” in our positions.

Please join us for an afternoon social over refreshments. A hot cocoa station and pastries that are halal, kosher, vegetarian and gluten-free will be provided. Be sure to register if interested, as a raffle will be held.

Gallery Your Thoughts: Mindfulness at the McMaster Museum of Art: Wednesday, January 24th 11:30AM – 12:30PM, Education Gallery, Lower Level, Museum of Art

A blend of meditation and art appreciation, these guided mindfulness sessions will be led by Mac mindfulness coach Cara-Jane Dempsey. There will also be an opportunity to tour the Museum’s exhibitions “We Remain Calm” and “Chasm” after the mindfulness session concludes.

Mini Golf in Mills Library: Thursday, January 25th 12pm-3pm, Mills Library, 2nd Floor Government Publications

Take a break from your studies and come play library mini putt! You can find our mini golf course winding through the second floor of Mills Library in the Government Publications (Gov Pubs). This is your chance to de-stress, get active, and golf! ? ?? ? ?? Show off your mini putt skills and have a blast with your friends. No driving allowed!

Virtual Gratitude Wall: All Week Long, Virtual

A digital gratitude wall where the McMaster community can come and share what they are grateful for. Reflecting on our own lives and reading other’s posts can help us feel more positive, improve health and resilience, and aid in developing strong, long-lasting relationships.
