Put on your comfiest clothes, grab some popcorn and enjoy speakers, entertainers, entrepreneurs, comedians, and musicians at this year’s virtual Light Up the Night.
While McMaster’s yearly Light Up the Night celebration is traditionally held on campus and includes musical acts, food and outdoor carnival rides, this year things are going to be a little different. The McMaster Alumni Association and the McMaster Student’s Union have teamed up and pulled together a free and fun line-up of events to help students reconnect with the university community — virtually.
On January 22, there will be a Q&A with Nick Nurse, the current head coach for NBA champions Toronto Raptors and the Canadian Senior Men’s National team. In his first year with the Raptors, Nurse guided the team to 58 regular-season victories and the franchise’s first NBA Championship title. He’s been named NBA Eastern Conference Coach of the Month three times.
Other events include trivia nights, cooking demonstrations, murder mystery, escape rooms, globetrotting and more. Musical guests include Jac Ross, Jeremie Albino and MacKenzie Porter.
So far, there are over 800 registrants for LUTN activities.

Additionally, the Alumni Association is hosting a series of @HOME programming geared to educate and entertain, with a focus on wellbeing. The talks will cover the art and science of improved well-being, how to implement hygge (Danish for “cosy togetherness”) into our lives, wellness while working remotely, comfort food tips and more. There’s also a virtual paint night! All events are free but registration is required.
