Following last week’s planned water outage, Hamilton Health Sciences (HHS) will complete additional repairs to a city water main that require a temporary loss of water service throughout McMaster University Medical Centre (MUMC), also known as the Health Sciences Centre (HSC).

The disruption is expected to begin at midnight (12 a.m.) on Friday, Aug. 7, 2026, and last until approximately 6 a.m.

What you need to know

Mitigation measures being put in place:

  • Portable washrooms located at the front of the building will be available to support building occupants.
  • Bottled water, portable eyewash stations and an emergency shower unit have been deployed.

The following systems and services are expected to remain operational:

  • Fire protection systems
  • Server cooling infrastructure
  • HVAC systems
  • Reverse osmosis (RO) water supporting research activities

Hamilton Health Sciences has implemented service continuity measures and McMaster University is working closely with hospital partners to monitor the situation.

If you are planning to work in MUMC during the outage period, please plan for temporary disruptions to washroom and water service and follow any on-site direction provided by Facility Services or HHS.

No further updates are planned unless the outage is extended or there is a significant change in impact.
