Chalk River Laboratories is the birthplace of Canada’s nuclear industry, where Nobel-Award winning research has taken place, and it’s one of this country’s most secure facilities.

And for two weeks this summer, it was where 15 McMaster students got the experiential learning experience of a lifetime.

The @mcmastereng and @mcmasterscience students were there as a part of a summer-long academic program that sees them conduct research with experts at both McMaster and @canadiannuclearlaboratories.

The students got to tackle real-world nuclear challenges, learn from industry experts and envision their place in a rapidly growing field.

“Doing research this summer and getting a taste of nuclear and radiochemistry has inspired me,” says Odessa Sloan, a third-year student in Chemical Biology.

“This is definitely a field that I’m more interested in, and I’m looking into careers that are in this field now.”
