Arig al Shaibah, McMaster University’s inaugural associate vice-president, Equity and Inclusion is moving on to the University of British Columbia (UBC) where she will lead that institution’s Equity and Inclusion Office.
“We are thankful to have had Arig’s expertise and dedication in support of McMaster’s ongoing commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion and to the important work at our Equity and Inclusion Office,” said Susan Tighe, provost and vice-president (Academic). “McMaster’s pursuit of Inclusive Excellence is an institutional priority. We recognize that a diversity of peoples, perspectives, knowledges, and ways of knowing are essential for achieving our vision for excellence and transformational impact through student learning, research, and global and local community engagement.”
Al Shaibah joined McMaster in 2018 and played a leading role in the implementation of the university’s EDI Framework for Strategic Action while strengthening the Equity and Inclusion Office. She also collaborated with the MacPherson Institute and Human Resource Services to develop and enhance EDI skills and capacity building initiatives for faculty and staff.
McMaster will soon announce an acting associate vice-president, Equity and Inclusion.
At UBC, al Shaibah will have responsibilities in both the Vancouver and Okanagan campuses as associate vice-president, Equity and Inclusion, starting on July 1, 2022.
