McMaster has been ranked fourth in Canada and is among the top 100 public universities globally in the 2026 Times Higher Education World University Rankings (WUR).

The prestigious international ranking places McMaster among the world’s leading universities for research excellence and strong partnerships with industry. Overall, McMaster ranked 116th in a field of more than 2,000 public and private universities worldwide.

“We’re proud of how our students, faculty and staff work together to turn our ambitious goals into reality,” said President and Vice-Chancellor Susan Tighe.

“This ranking is a strong reminder that McMaster is committed to driving discovery and creating social and economic impact here and around the world.”

The university is one of the top global institutions within the WUR’s industry impact indicator, scoring a perfect 100 in terms of research income funded by industry and the number of patents citing McMaster research.

McMaster’s reputation for research quality has climbed even higher this year, rising four spots from last year to rank 64th globally with a score of 93.1 out of 100. This crucial indicator, which assesses the excellence and impact of a university’s published research, is measured through a survey of 93,000 scholars worldwide and compiled data from millions of research publications.

The WUR evaluates 2,092 universities from 115 countries based on five pillars: teaching, research environment, research quality, international outlook and industry.

McMaster recently ranked 14th in the world in the Times Higher Education University Impact Rankings of institutions that excel across multiple United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
