Sixteen McMaster University researchers have been named to the prestigious 2024 list of the world’s Highly Cited Researchers by analytics firm Clarivate.
This global recognition highlights individuals who have significantly influenced their fields through impactful research.
Inclusion is based on the number of Highly Cited Papers – a measure of publications that rank in the top 1 per cent by citations within their respective fields over the past decade, as determined by Web of Science.
The selection process also includes qualitative analysis and expert evaluation, with Highly Cited Researchers representing just 1 in every 1,000 worldwide.

Notably, 10 of the 16 McMaster researchers received a Cross-Field distinction, recognizing their significant impact across multiple areas of study. In addition, Gordon Guyatt was featured twice for his contributions to both Clinical Medicine and Social Sciences.
McMaster ranked sixth in Canada for its number of Highly Cited Researchers, reflecting the university’s strong impact on international research.
