Big Ideas for a Changing World, the new podcast series just launched by McMaster’s Faculty of Engineering, tells the stories of innovative research during the COVID-19 pandemic.
In the first episode, listeners are transported back to the early days of COVID-19 in Hamilton, where healthcare workers in a Hamilton hospital had less than a week’s supply of masks.
How did McMaster become home to a robust network of engineers, clinicians, manufacturers and companies working to advance Canada’s personal protective equipment – and what’s next for PPE in Canada?
The episode features Ravi Selvaganapathy, CEPEM’s director and a professor of mechanical engineering and biomedical engineering, and Dr. Alison Fox-Robichaud, a critical care physician at Hamilton Health Sciences (HHS) and a professor in the Department of Medicine at McMaster.

Upcoming episodes will feature topics such as creating a rapid detection kit for SARS-CoV-2 antibodies, bacteria and virus-repellent surfaces and using data analytics to virutally model the safe reopening of communities.
