McMaster’s reputation for excellence in medical and health studies continues to place it among the world’s top institutions.
The university has ranked 42nd in the world and fourth in Canada in the medical and health category of the 2026 Times Higher Education World University Rankings by subject.
“It’s a testament to the continued excellence of our students, faculty and staff who are building on McMaster’s strong history as pioneers of evidence-based medicine and problem-based learning,” said President and Vice-Chancellor Susan Tighe.
“I’m confident that McMaster’s impact on the world will continue to grow as we drive discovery and innovation in medicine and health sciences.”
This year’s ranking also places McMaster in the top 150 universities globally for life sciences and psychology, and in the top 200 for engineering and social sciences.
The subject rankings evaluate more than 2,000 universities around the world across 11 subject areas by examining 18 performance indicators categorized under five core pillars: teaching, research environment, research quality, industry, and international outlook.
Times Higher Education ranked McMaster 116th overall in its prestigious 2026 World University Rankings.
McMaster also ranked 14th in the world for global impact in the Times Higher Education 2025 Impact Ranking, which measures universities’ performance in advancing the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals to improve life around the world and protect the planet.
