We are reminding students to keep safety and being a good neighbour top of mind.

The City of Hamilton, Hamilton Police Services and McMaster University are working together to discourage large, unsanctioned events like street parties. It is important that students are aware that the City of Hamilton has a new Nuisance Party Bylaw and University District Safety Initiative. Between September 28th – October 2nd, there will be zero tolerance for bylaw infractions in the neighbourhoods surrounding the university.

Anyone attending or hosting a nuisance party, such as a street party, could face large fines of up to $10,000 from the City of Hamilton.

Even though there are no homecoming activities at McMaster, Hamilton could still be the focus for street party events, which, in the past, have been organized and promoted online by people with no connection to the university. To avoid fines and to be respectful to others in our community, do not attend street or other disruptive parties.

Students living in the areas around campus are an important part of the neighbourhood. Thank you for being a good neighbour and for staying safe.
