Following the recent announcement of Andrea Farquhar’s impending retirement from McMaster, an interim leader has been identified for Communications, Marketing and Public Affairs. David Estok, the former Vice-President of Communications at the University of Toronto, will join McMaster as Advisor to the President (Communications, Marketing and Public Affairs) on a part-time basis, effective May 1.
“David has deep experience of providing advice to senior leadership, dealing with emerging, sensitive, and complex issues, creating innovative and efficient organizational structures, and developing strategic marketing and communications plans,” said President David Farrar. “I am delighted he will be working with our talented and professional team within CMPA. I am looking forward to his insights as we review the current model of communications, marketing and public affairs at McMaster and undertake a search for a new leader.”
In addition to his previous senior leadership role at the University of Toronto, Estok has also held senior leadership roles at SickKids Foundation, where he was Vice-President, Brand Marketing and Communications, Western University where he was the first Associate Vice-President of Communications, and The Hamilton Spectator, where he served as editor-in-chief.
Estok has begun working with Andrea Farquhar to support a smooth transition. In the interim role he will oversee the work of the CMPA team, and support, guide, and provide counsel to the CMPA leadership until a new leader is appointed. “I am looking forward to getting to know the team, hearing about their priorities and ideas, and ensuring they are well-supported and able to continue delivering excellent work for the University community,” said Estok.
A review of CMPA is planned for later in the year. This will help guide next steps, including the appropriate model for the future, and the recruitment of the next leader.
