Students, welcome to the neighbourhood!
With the 2026-2027 academic year about to begin, the university is launching the Be a Good Neighbour campaign.
It’s an annual reminder to our students that they’re part of a vibrant community, and to encourage them to contribute positively by being good neighbours.
Whether it’s saying hello to those around you, supporting local businesses, or keeping sidewalks accessible, students play a meaningful role in maintaining a great living environment.
“McMaster students have long contributed to the rich communities of Westdale and Ainslie Wood areas,” says Sean Van Koughnett, associate vice-president (Students).
“Being a good neighbour is often about the small, everyday things — keeping noise down, managing garbage and recycling responsibly, and being mindful of the people living around you.”
As part of the Good Neighbour campaign, the university is sharing messages with students directly and through various digital, print and social media.
