June is Pride Month, a time for the 2SLGBTQIA+ community and its allies to come together to affirm the right to equality for the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.
It is also a time to recognize that there is much more work to be done to ensure all members of our diverse community, regardless of sexual orientation and gender identity, are treated equitably and with dignity.
In that vein, McMaster University’s Equity and Inclusion Office is running a series of Human Rights, Equity, Accessibility, Anti-Racism Toolkit (H.E.A.A.R.T.) workshops.
The following four workshops are new additions to the 2022 Summer Workshop Series:
What does it mean to build positive learning environments and workspaces for diverse gender identities and expressions? In this session, participants will learn about the ways transphobia and cisnormativity manifest in society, practices to build more equitable spaces and campus and community resources for support and education.
What does it mean to build positive learning environments and workspaces for diverse sexualities? In this session, participants will learn about the ways homophobia and heteronormativity manifest in society, practices to build more equitable spaces, and campus and community resources for support and education.
Learn core concepts of digital accessibility and how to create accessible and inclusive social media content on popular platforms such as Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
In this session, participants will learn practical strategies for interrupting different forms of sexual violence and other types of harm when they see it.

Moments in history that shaped PRIDE and its significance
Gain a deeper understanding of the history of Pride and the events in Canada’s history that shaped Pride Month into what it is today through the Equity and Inclusion Office’s Pride History Synopsis.
The synopsis covers major events like the 1969 Stonewall Riots in New York, early Pride Week celebrations and the evolution of the Pride flag.
